How we turn architectural render files into beautiful architectural models:

The Problem:

Architectural models can take a long time to make, and it’s often only practical from a cost standpoint on larger projects. It’s also hard to reproduce all the details in a way that truly represents the plan.

The good news is that we have an excellent solution: 3D Printing.
3D printed architectural models are:

  • Fast to make

  • Extremely accurate

  • Made from existing files from renders

  • Look incredible

  • Low cost

This means that you can have models made for every single project, improving the experience for your customers, and making your job easier by giving a real physical model to look at. 3D models on a computer are amazing, but you just can’t beat a physical model.

Our Process:

Unfortunately, it’s not as simple as dragging and dropping the file created for renders and hitting print. Creating a perfect architectural 3D printing requires a few key steps:

  1. We take your file, and perform the necessary cleanup. Render files don’t take into account printability. Usually, nothing is connected, and the model is not manifold (watertight), which means that it cannot be printed.

  2. Once that’s complete, the next step is splitting the model for optimal print quality. If you tried to print the model in one go, roof overhangs would have to have messy supports. But splitting the model correctly, no support will be required, meaning a perfect finish throughout the model.

  3. All the parts for the model are then printed out, optimising for quality and accuracy.

  4. Once all the parts are printed out, they need to be carefully glued together. Getting this step wrong can ruin the model. Gaps need to be fully closed, and no glue can squeeze out.

  5. Once the glue has all dried, the model can be given a matte clear coat, protecting the surface from getting dirty, and giving it a really clean look.
