How 3D printing saved this company thousands with their electronics covers

One of our clients in the manufacturing industry approached us with a specific need: a custom machine cover designed in-house to protect the electronics in the machines they were building.

They provided us with a CAD file, originally intended to be printed in ABS plastic.

After reviewing their requirements, we recommended switching to PETG, due to its superior outdoor performance and excellent oil and solvent resistance.

We also suggested re-orienting the print from what they had done on their own printed sample, flipping it so the outside surface would be smoother and require no support material to the outside surfaces.

With the client requiring a quick turn around, we immediately produced and sent a sample to them. After approving the sample, we printed it in the covers within a week, ensuring their project remained on schedule.

This job highlights the efficiency and importance of 3D printing in the modern manufacturing process. Had these covers been CNC machined out of plastic instead, the price would have been 20x more, and taken much longer.

This collaboration highlights how precise material selection, thoughtful orientation, and efficient production by using 3D printing can accelerate your project.
